Need a cottage nr Newbury for Oct half-term

There will be 5 of us by then - kids aged 5, 3 and 8 weeks (or thereabouts!). Need to be at a family party in Newbury on the Sunday at the start of half-term (Oct 22nd), and would like to make a week away of it.

My knowledge of the area is very poor, and I haven't yet come up with anything on a couple of websites, so thought I'd ask you lot for recommendations.

TIA

Or point me in the direction of a website other than cottages4you, and NT cottages, which only had one suitable/available and that mighty expensive!

would this do? kingfisher barn

i've not stayed here but when we hired the pool for a work thing - I had a peak in the cottages and they are lovely. There's also plenty to do around the area - Farmer Giles and A huge soft play thing and you'll be about a 35-45min journey down the A34 to Newbury (well M4 J13). Not sure where you're coming from but staying here you'd be an hour from Legoland, if you're saving the tesco vouchers?

Thanks very much for that! Have requested a brochure.

hope its in your price range.

purpleturtle, we needed somewhere in Newbury 2 years ago, and couldn't find a thing!! It's as though holiday cottages just don't exist there, which seems strange as there are so many things to see and do within an hour radius.

Friend lives in Abingdon, it's really quick and easy to get straight down to Newbury on the A34.

purpleturtle · 23/06/2006 15:29

Might be able to stretch to it, lexiemum!

I don't mind not being in Newbury. In fact, would be happy to travel for an hour or so to get there. But you're right - there doesn't seem to be much around.

Just thought, there is the Marwell Hotel, next to the Zoo gates, which is about 35 minutes from Newbury, which would be great for the rest of your half term, nr to Southampton, the coast, whizz up the M3 to Legoland etc. Don't know the costs or anything.

Thanks bluesky, I'll look into that.

we stayed in a lovely hotel just outside newbury, we paid £60 a night for b and b, it had a pool and was very child friendly

purpleturtle · 24/06/2006 18:27

Likely to have a family room for 5?

hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

we stayed here ramada jarvis

the room we had, had a king size bed, a double sofa bed and took our own cot

Thanks for your suggestion lexiemum. Am in the process of booking at Kingfisher barns.

Although the hotels sound lovely, I think I'm going to need the freedom of self-catering if I'm going to retain my sanity on our first holiday as a family of 5!
