2 weeks in Cornwall - no kids. Things to do

Anyone advise on 'hidden gems'. We're staying 4 nights in Camelford, 4 nights Roseland Peninsula and 4 nights Godrevy Bay. We both like walking so have some plans to walk on Bodmin Moor - Cheesewring, hurlers, Dozmary etc, Lanhydrock, Eden Project (I love a good garden - is it worth it?). Heligan, St Ives for galleries, Tintagel, Veryan, Falmouth, maybe a boat trip from Truro to Falmouth, St Michael's Mount etc.. anything that we really should see/go to that's maybe not on theusual tourist itinerary?

Definitely recommend Eden Project, especially if you are into gardens, it is really inspiring. Also Tintagel - although the town is spoiled by tourist tat, the castle ruins are really spectacular.

Lanhydrock is also nice.

Bedruthan Steps is a stunning beach.

For a taste of Rick Stein at reasonable prices, the Cornish Arms is a good pub with food, or his takeaway fish and chips in Padstow Harbour is worth a visit, but be prepared to queue. Otherwise I would avoid Padstow as it is always heaving.

I will second Lanhydrock, take a picnic and walk the grounds, the gardens are lovely.

Mawgan Porth Beach is very nice too, not usually as busy.

Visit St Just in Roseland church and have a wander round, lunch in Portscatho in the village pub. the King Alfred Ferry runs from h ere to Falmouth.Truro or take a boat from St Mawes to Falmouth.

Eden is lovely but overrun with families with kids.

Lunch at Minions Post office after walking the Hurlers and the Cheesewring and don't miss the Quarry.

Heligan Gardens are also very nice to visit.

I have visited most of the National Trust gardens in Cornwall and love Glendurgan the most.

Second the St Just in Roseland church as well, the setting is just beautiful.

Hire a bike at Camelford and have a pedal down the Camel trail to Padstow and back. Its a very lovely trail, flat wide and easy.

If you like good good food, then I can recommend Paul ainsworth at no. 6, padstow.

Bedruthan steps is stunning. But you need to be there at lowest tide.

We had lunch at a place that wasn't the post office at minions and it was a seriously creepy place! Don't know what it was about it, but it was chilling.

Trebah gardens is lovely with a secluded stony beach. Beautiful setting and wonderful cafe.

Ha Pooka, I bet I know where you mean, little place opposite the pub, yes, seriously creepy!!

Get the ferry from Rock to Padstow, nice day out

Take rucksacks with you if you do the Camel trail, and stop at Camel Valley vineyard for a quick glass of fizzy stuff, then buy a couple of bottles to take back with you.

Their Rose Camel Valley "Cornwall" is one of the best sparkling wines in the world.

Funnily enough, I was chatting a few weeks later to a local (well, wadebridge, so localish) who said he once went to play in a pool competition at minions pub and ended up having to leave midway through because he was so freaked out by the place (nothing to do with the beer, he assured me). He mentioned the word covens several times!

But the walk past the hurlers and to the cheesewring is amazing.

Charlestown is another place we've recently visited and liked. We went off season and it was stunning - and has the strangest, funniest museum ever. Cheap too - kids under 12 were free. One minute you're looking at m&s dummies circa 1980 dressed as Georgian dignitaries. And the next, you're transported back to a British Gas showroom with a history of the gas cooker. And then lots of finds from shipwrecks. Awesome.

Yes, they drink from early morning and spend all their time out the back slagging off the customers.

Midsummer morning is the time to go to the hurlers f you want to see covens!!

Well we spent our journey back slagging/laughing about the cafe (slightly nervously because was slightly sinister) so fair's fair

It may be a different place though - think the one we went to was up for sale about 6-12 months ago.

The setting of Tintagel Castle blew me away. It is really worth visiting. Boscastle is very pretty and has an interesting witchcraft museum.

Can recommend Tintagel, Padstow, Rock for the beaches and Heligan. DH and I are keen gardeners and loved Heligan, although very busy these days. We thoroughly disliked the Eden Project as it felt to us too "educational". We loved Minack theatre, built into cliffs looking over the sea. Try and book a performance if you can, and take rugs and a picnic. We saw Macbeth performed in front of the sea with the moon shining over the waves. Fantastic!

Cothele is very good for walking. It's national trust but if you park in the lower car park by the quay it's a lovely walk along the river through the woods to Calstock.

Cape Cornwall, near Landsend. Beautiful, amazing rockpools and 8 resident seals in the next bay.

We got the ferry from Penzance to Isles of Scilly and it was amazing, we only went for the day but wish we had stayed longer. The Minnack theatre is amazing, play was rubbish but the setting, oh my! We also went to Botallack and it is beautiful. Also there is the best second hand shop in Marazion (if that's your thing!)
