Edinburgh on a bank holiday

Looking for some local knowledge here please.
I've just realised, somewhat belatedly, that the day trip to Edinburgh which I've arranged, falls on a bank holiday (26th August).
As the plan was for a shopping trip, have I cocked up here?
Will the shops all be shut or will it be Sunday hours or what?
Can anyone advise?
Thanks.

Business as usual, no bank holiday here Smile

I'm pretty sure that is only an English bank holiday, not a Scottish one. If I'm wrong, the big shops will all be open and almost everything else, except perhaps the odd small independent shop. All museums and attractions will be open. The festival is still on, so the town should be busy. Nothing to worry about.

I don't think it's a bank holiday in Scotland that day, even if it is the shops will still be open.

Agree with others- not a bank holiday but even if it were all the shops would be open!

Brilliant!
Thank-you ladies.
I will do my best to help boost the Scottish economy.
Can't wait.

No bank holiday and no English Sunday trading laws either. End of festival so pretty messy in some places! However it really is a great city for shopping and culture and food too.
