Couples' weekend breaks near London - any recommendations?

DH and I live in central London, and we're looking for a weekend break for the 2 of us that we can get to within an hour or two. We like good food (and I'm vegetarian, he loves meat!), massages, countryside/beach walks, and looking at interesting historical things.

Just scouting round for recommendations really....

TIA

Brighton? Visit the Pavilion, potter around the Lanes, walk on the beach. Loads of great veggie places to eat.

Thanks for that - I've been to Brighton, but am hoping for something a bit quiter/more countrysidey? All suggestions gratefully received!

Burford in the Cotswolds. Lovely walks nice country pubs.

Bury st Edmunds? History, lovely pubs, nice to potter round. Ickworth House, very nice spa hotel.

Also Woodbridge/southwold etc on Suffolk coast, might be a bit far though

Thanks so much for these suggestions, I'm looking at pictures online and they all look lovely.
