Has anyone been to Bath??

Hi, we are planning to go away to Bath, just for one night for our 10th anniversary.
We can only have a one night stay, as we're not taking out daughter. How can we make the most of our time there? What should we do? Can you actually swim in the ancient baths? I've seen a modern looking spa called Thermae bath spa, is that the only one you can swim in?

hi i've been there. you definitely can't swim in the ancient baths, its just a guided tour thing - interesting tho. Don't know about the other spa place, but I did like Bath, nice shops, nice restaurants and bars, etc. there's a couple of guided walks too which were fun.

The spa is amazing. Swim in a open air roof top hot pool. I had the best hot stone foot massage ever there. Also the rowing boats on the river are fun, loads of good shops and pretty architecture. Nice country pubs just outside if you have a car, and good theatre if you like that.

Sounds lovely! I really like the rowing boat idea too. I do feel a bit guilty for not taking our DD. Wondering weather or not we should. She has severe learning difficulties and is a bit loud, so we couldn't stay in too posh a hotel if she came. She loves boats and swimming pools, but hates shopping. We've never left her before though. Hmm..

Don't feel guilty. Have a lovely time and if you really like it, go again and take her with you.

Yes. Many people have been to Bath. It's quite a popular tourist spot, and has been for well over a hundred years.

OP I had a lovely day doing spa things. First a tour of the Roman Baths then a lovely session in the Thermae modern one. It was a great way to lead into the whole bathing experience. Thermae is very well done, but one got the distinct impression that the Roman baths were rather more fun.

I thought I covered it with "well over" :o

You can do a walking tour of Bath which takes about two hours, you start and finish just outside the Pump rooms. If you do one thing, make sure you take tea at the Pump rooms, very enjoyable with its own unique style.

I'm going down there with the kids next month for a few days. Staying with MIL. :)
