Places to stay in York, Glasgow and West Scotland

Looking for family friendly accommodation (B&B, self-catering, hotel) for our trip up to Scotland this summer. We're travelling via York so any recommendations for there would also be great. And any recommendations of things that we should make sure we visit/see whilst we're there!
Thanks.

West Scotland is a big place - can you be more specific?

Witt · 31/05/2013 16:41

Skye, Mull and Oban. But open to other suggestions.

I'd suggest Skye or Mull if you want an island, but not both unless you want to spend a lot of holiday driving. Loch Lomond is great as you are in a National Park but also accessible for Glasgow's museums, Stirling Castle and the Trossachs. Plenty to do there.

Not too bothered by the driving. We are spending 3 weeks in Scotland so we have the time.

If you could recommend only one of Mull or Skye which would you go for?

Actually, I'd go to Skye and Wester Ross - Ullapool, achiltibuie etc. stunning.

I love Mull and Skye.
For Mull - recommend Calgary Beach and a boat trip to Staffa (we went with a company called Turus Mara)
York - love a walk around the city walls, York Minster and a trip to the Castle Museum, also like a sit down in the Museum Gardens!

There is a place in York that does the most fabulous Ice cream. Cannot remember the name of it, but its near the Cathedral.

Mull and Skye are both beautiful. Enjoy your holiday.

We stayed in the Glasgow House www.glasgow-house.co.uk/

It had a lot of stairs but has everything you need and sleeps 7. You can walk to most places - Botanic Gardens v close, Byres Rd. Kelvingrove etc. go and eat at Crabby Mac's if you like seafood.

The ice cream place in York is LICC, the Luxury Ice Cream Company. They have a facebook page. What sort if accommodation are you looking for: hotel? B&B? Central/near the station?
