Things to do in/around Morecambe

Have booked a weekend at a caravan park through The Mirror £9 holiday offer (£9 pp plus £20 per night service charge, not exactly the bargain £9 it purports to be tight arse that I am )

I've not been on holiday for 2 years, it's a 3 night/4 day break and I was planning on using the site as a base.

What is there to do with a 9 year old and an 8 week old (what was I thinking!!?)

The site has a little pool and park, so DD will be happy with that but I can't see it keeping us entertained all day.

What's going on locally to keep her happy?

I did fancy a trip up to the Lake District, haven't been since I was 18, however we won't be up to walking as DD would moan all the way round and the 8 week old baby will be just a little too young for a hike! Where is reasonably close to get to (within an hour) with activities/play areas/attractions?

Greenlands farm is good, animals, play area, plus huge indoor soft play, but that is about 20 mins drive away.

Morecambe prom is great if the sun is shining, plenty of play areas, things to see, the stone jetty is great, lots of puzzles and games along the length of it.

Is it Regent Park? If so there isnt a huge amount within walking distance, its about 15 mins walk to the prom :)

Tea in the lovely Art Deco Midland Hotel on the prom - you can look out at the sea so it's not totally bereft of interest for youngsters. I've been with a baby. There's a nice spa there too if you can get someone to take charge of the baby for an hour.

As Illegal said the prom is nice on a good day - there are fountain play areas that are good if it's hot and sunny and your older DD has her costume with her.

Go for a picturesque walk at Silverdale

Lancaster is not far and Williamson Park there has a butterfly house and plenty of running around space.

Williamsons Park in Lancaster. Great for kids- loads of space.

If you wanted to go to the lakes, the aquarium of the lakes is nice and not too big. You can do a boat or train trip before or after going, which is lovely, but starts getting expensive. Book online if going as you save about 10%.

Beatrix potter museum in Bowness good if you like the books.

Www.visitlancashire.com is worth a look as it will generally contain up to date info on events that are on at the time of your visit. If going in summer there are often agricultural shows on, which are great for kids, but you'd probably need a sling for baby.

the site is Venture and is (according to reviews) in the middle of an estate but is clean and lovely staff.

lots of ideas - will fill the 3 main days.

Happy Mount Park in Morecambe itself is nice, with those water sprinkler thingies if the weather is warm

There is an actual sandy beach, too (leading onto the mud flats, but hey-ho)

If the weather is nice Happy Mount Park is brilliant for children. They have a free splash park (if warm), crazy golf, playgrounds, a miniature train and for the older children a big adventure playground at the back with brilliant swings! The adventure playground area as a sandpit for smaller children as well. My only advice is to avoid the café there as frankly Rastelli's is renowned locally for being overpriced crap.

The park is at the end of the Prom going towards Bolton Le Sands.

If its raining, there is The Zone indoor play area in Dalton Square, Lancaster which is £4 per kid. If you want cheap and cheerful, Cottams Field brewsters near J34 has an indoor play area that's only £2 per child - the zone is better though.

The Aquarium of the Lakes is pricy. A good day out if you want to go as far as Windermere is FellFoot country park, there's a water taxi that will take you from there over to the trains and aquarium, even just to have a look.

Second Williamson Park. Lancaster city centre is a zillion times nicer than Morecambe's and if you are there on a Wed or Sat, the Lancaster street market is brilliant.

Around the corner from Williamson's park is a big bright new indoor play area called Giggles. It's on what is called Lancaster leisure park and is tucked away a bit but ask someone and you'll find it. Much nicer environment than the Zone which is dark and wasn't really refurbished very well before they out the equipment in (used to be a nightclub, before that a cinema). Plus no parking charges to add to cost of visit. I also think giggles has more scope to be fun for older DC (ie 8yrs). Hopefully the weather will be nice and you won't need to find indoor play areas!

Thought of another nice thing to do in rain - at the top end of town, towards castle/railway station ask someone to show you where the judges lodgings is. Cheap entry and top floor good for children - small toy museum, and playroom with old toys, small classroom which my DC enjoyed playing teachers in.
