Legoland Windsor or Legoland Discovery in Manchester

We are tinkering with the idea of taking DS (5) to one of these for his October birthday - tying into the half term break, and travelling from central Scotland.

Common sense tells me Manchester is less distance to travel, cheaper for both accommodation and entry fees, and looks to be indoors.

DH and my mum are both adamant suggesting that Windsor is a better experience! Mum has a right to her opinion as she is stumping up a chunk of the £s and coming with us!

The discovery centres are nothing like Legoland.

They are mainly sedate indoor activities based around looking at models. It's not a theme park.

Legoland has different "Lands" based on Lego themes with thrill rides, water rides etc. So it's basically a theme park but with some Lego build areas and Lego models to look at.

If you are in Scotland would it not be just as easy to go to the original Legoland in Billund, Denmark?

The problem with Windsor is the expense. It is very pricey. But I think you can use club card vouchers?

We are going back to the Legoland in Germany this year. The food and drink prices are far more reasonable and we stay in a bungalow in the
Lego village which has a lake, bowling alley and restaurants for the evening. You can also camp in a Knights Tent. It's much better than Windsor.

Thanks Wally! I'm off to look at Denmark and Germany as Windsor is closed midweek on the dates we need to fit with school; making it expensive for a maximum 2 day visit.

Agree that the discovery centre and Windsor are very different. Windsor is built on a steep hill, local hotels are expensive and it's not that easy to get around, though it is very good. Little things like charging £3 for parking really pee me off too!

So glad I read this - I've been toying with Legoland Manchester for a while but Billund is beginning to sound more the thing.

Looks like flying to Denmark is the simplest option, only because that works with the dates we have available....

How exciting! Much more memorable than a schlepp to Windsor!

Denmark is expensive though. So it might be worth investigating prices. Taking a few drinking bottles and a small concentrate bottle of squash can save a fortune!

The only exciting thing at Manchester is the 4D film! There are two or three rides, a small model village and a small soft play area. Billund is the best. Windsor - overpriced and the queues unbelievable. Although I did enjoy the firework display at Windsor.
