UK holidays - where to go?

We want to go somewhere for 2 weeks with DS (4yrs) and dd (18 months), self catering somewhere in the UK. On previous holidays, we've always tied in seeing friends (peak district and Devon), so haven't had to decide on a location and now I come to start thinking about our summer hols, I realise I have no idea where might be nice!

Where would you recommend?

Whereabouts are you and how long a journey would you consider?

clydey cottages in west wales - fab - so many things on site - like a tiny weeny center parcs and near to lots of visitor attractions.

Isle of Wight? west side is lovely and much less touristy but if you want touristy things then they are never far away - best of both worlds

Bosinver farm cottages in Cornwall. We went last year and booked again for this year within a week of being back. There's loads to do in the surrounding area as well as all the onsite facilities.

What about East Yorkshire - around the Yorkshire Wolds and Beverley. There is so much to do - there is a great long coast with seaside resorts - beaches or wildlife up close. Free museums - the Deep submarium - Beverley maze loads to do and Beverley is a great market town full of character with some great reataurants. North Yorkshire?
The moors national park
Pretty towns like Pickering and Helmsley.
Whitby is fab
Robin Hoods Bay worth a visit
Scarborough bigger and a bit more in your face seaside but lots to see SeaLife centre etc.
Castle Howard nearby
York
Steam railways
Lovely beach at Filey
Or North Wales
Conway is very pretty and a great base to tour around North Wales
Lovely beaches
Portmeirion nearby
Snowdonia
Lovely towns in land
Slate mines
Anglesey
Then there is Northumberland.......love a UK self catering holiday!

North Cornwall ? Great beaches ! Can recommend www.merlin-farm-cottages-cornwall.co.uk some cottages are equipped with all the baby gear
The Lakes are beautiful too, just come back from a short break at Ullswater but not sure that would be a kiddie holiday.....

We're in the midlands, so not too far from anywhere, and when it's for a fortnight, it doesn't matter if it's a bit of a drive anyway.

Northumberland or north Wales for me!

I would second North Wales for beautiful scenery, beaches, walking, cycling. Also many excellent tourist attractions.

We went to broadgate farm cottages a couple of years ago and a week wasn't long enough. Would love to go back. Maybe next year x

We're looking at going to Pembrokeshire again. We went last year and thought it had all the nice bits of Cornwall, but without the high prices and crowds.

Lots of nice beaches, Pembroke castle is great for kids and Oakwood Theme park was fab with the no.1 wooden rollercoaster in the UK. Plenty of walks if that's your kind of thing, crabbing, Folly Farm, a chocolate factory and honey farm.

We stayed in Tenby last year but now looking at the Cardigan area. DC love ruined castles and there are a few over that way, plus there's dolphin watching and watersports on the river.

I was surprised how much there was to do there tbh. We couldn't do it all in a week.

I'll second the isle of eight, gorgeous island, loads to do. Have many fab memories of the place

Scotland - we had a very, very dry summer here on the West Coast and the locals are friendly!

Harris and Lewis, if you can cope with moving around rahter than 2 weeks in same place then a few stop off en route - Portree etc etc. BlackHouse museum is a great palce to stay if you can get in.

I'm always a fan of north Cornwall too. I know I live down here, so I'm a bit biased, but it is lovely. OK, the weather can be more than a bit rubbish, but there's always something else to do if you don't want to sit on the beach.
Some of my mates run Harbour Holidays and they have some lovely places to stay, if you can't find anything else. (There's that bias again!).

Otherwise, just about my other favourite place on the planet is the West Coast of Scotland, around Airsaig and northwards. I always stay in cheap B&Bs up there. Not a brilliant drive though....

Already suggested here but East Yorkshire and North Yorkshire are lovely, anywhere from Withernsea (quiet) up to Scarborough. Norfolk/Suffolk has loads to do (Norfolk is really my favourite UK holiday place). We love Wales, north and west but haven't been further south although it is on my list of places to go.
