Have dismissed abroad as will cost too much and too much hassle. Would love to find a big cottage or maybe go to Centre Parcs. Just want to spend time with my girls, eat drink and dance :)

fraggle73 · 06/09/2012 22:59

I am not sure of budget, not sure how much my friends are willing to pay for 2 nights.

Don't do Chester, it's fab but too many stags/hens Grin Peak District is gorgeous Buxton/Tideswell as is the Lakes Kendal my fav sorry no specifics of where as lucky to have fam/friends with second homes.

I think I am looking at Cotswolds as central as my friends are scattered all over the place.

How about the lakes? You could get a house for £700 pw I think. Not sure what you'll pay in Cotswolds

What activities are you looking to do when you're together? Eg majority of time socialising in the cottage or do you want to be near a town with a good night life?

We went to Bath. stayed in the holiday inn on the edge opposite fab indian restaurant. It was ideal for what we wanted - a good base. could walk into town, do the market, do a boat trip, go to costume museum, have afternoon tea at the pump house and for those that wanted a pamper day at the bath spa with lovely roof top open pool. If not then look at groupaccommodation.com and bigholidayhouse.com but if you only want a weekend then you need to avoid all school hols and from May to Sept when places will charge a lot more. good luck and hope you have fun.

I've Bath looks fab, mummy, I've booked to stay there on Friday night with my son ready for the uni open day on Saturday.

Based on the above, might recommend it for a future girls' weekend.

You could also try a rent a hostel through the yha. Friend spent her 40th in a hostel on the lakes and had a great time. Brilliant if you're doing families but possibly not classy enough for a girly weekend away unless you're a bunch of outdoor enthusiasts!

We all stayed here for a big family get together. They also do weekend breaks. www.helpfulholidays.com/property.asp?ref=F30. Probably too far for you but perfect for a big gathering of friends, family or both!

Forgot to say it's called Porlock Vale and is situated next to the sea on the edge of Exmoor. I can't remember if it was N.Devon or N.Somerset. The later I think :)

I spent my 40th at Centre Parcs with family. Fabulous time! There were about 27 of us and we hired 5 villas all next to each other. CP are brilliant if you are a big group and gave us a 'group co-ordinator' (or some such title) who rang me up, offered help with bookings and left us free wine and chocs in my villa. Lovely!
