Things to Do in Colchester when you're Dead (Bored)

Does anyone have tips for fun things to do with my three DSs (2,4,6) in and around Colchester? We're staying there to see my in laws for a week soon - cue Psycho music - and so need some ideas.

We know about the zoo, and Frinton as a possible beach, but what about nice free local playgrounds, places to run around, and so on?

Basically, any tips at all will be very welcome indeed! And who knows? Your post may just save a life... Wink

I live in Colchester and here are a few suggestions
Go to castle park in the town centre which has a fab park for kids of all ages plus a small boating lake
Leisure World has a swimming pool and flumes
Jungle adventure soft play in stanway if it raining - new and does lovely lunches/coffee
Wetlands country park, straight rd, stanway has a playground, obstacle course, swings etc.
High woods country park for walks and a lake walk plus an outdoor play area
If you get a chance try going to Mersea island for the day. East mersea has big open green areas which lead to the sea. West mersea has lovely beach and you can go crabbing. Just check the tide times so it is not just mud!
Hope that helps....

Oh thought of one more - Rollerworld where you can go skating. Building doesn't look much from the outside but fine inside Grin
