We are all meant to be going to Sardinia on 14th August for 2 weeks. But my teenage son has just had a major operation after an internal bleed and is still very weak. We don't want to go too far from his hospital at the moment so have to stay in the UK. He can't swim or go on a beach because of his surgery, he can't walk far as he has no strength at the moment so we are really struggling to think of what to do. There are 5 of us - kids 8, 10 and 13. Any ideas please - we all need a bit of a treat after a very gruelling few weeks without spending a fortune. We had thought of Edinburgh maybe? Any tips/ideas gratefully recieved.

what would he fancy? Can you go away another time when he can enjoy it instead?

borrow a wheelchair try red cross locally or the hospital so he can go out and about ??

go shorter time to a nice hotel not too far from you - eg a spa type hotel with nice grounds for the other kids to run around in

eg try blog.mrandmrssmith.com/2010/01/top-10-child-friendly-uk-hotels/ or ideas www.luxuryfamilyhotels.co.uk/ i read a great review of ickworth manor hotel in local paper recently

Edinburgh will be busy because of the festival. I have mobility problems and often have to plan my routes in the city centre.

Not sure what part of the country you are from but Beverley in East Riding of Yorkshire is lovely. We stayed there last summer x

It truly sounds as though anything is going to be too much for him. A city holiday is far harder than a beach holiday IMO.
Could he perhaps stay with grandparents or at home? He might be happier?

Thanks for posts. Sadly we can't stay at home as the other half of the house swap our coming to our house anyway so we have to clear out for 2 weeks. Wheelchair a very good idea. I will check out those hotels too. Thanks
