Anyone done a Haven holiday and care to recommend a park?

We're looking at a Haven holiday for the first week of Sept, anywhere in the UK is fine. We have 2 DS (5&7) to entertain.
Have you been on a Haven holiday? Would you recommend or warn us off the park you were in?
We would like somewhere with near by places to visit and preferably a play park for the children. :)

We loved Hopton and Rockley Park. Church Farm was ok but the owners were very much favoured over normal guests and there were quite a few families that ignored their misbehaving children.

We went to Primrose valley and when making the beds up on arrival found the bottom of the mattress covered in excrement, I think someone had just turned it over. it rather put me off haven to be honest, but we are going to one this weekend on the thames estuary, only as a base to visit relatives in London and Kent though. We have also been to Golden sands when my kids were small and they loved the beach, pool and the little sand train. We've also been to devon Cliffs which was fine and lots to do in the area, Sidmouth was nice for a visit and nice Donkey sanctaury nearby.

Devon Cliffs, maybe biased having worked a few seasons there the surrounding area is fantastic, loads to do for your dc age groups both on and off site and a lovely park, huge complex and has it's own beach.

We've been to Flookburgh (near Grange over sands - lake District) which was BEAUTIFUL and a great base for the lakes - Haverthwaite steam train nearby takes you to Windermere and your ticket gets you onto a boat all around Ambleside and bowness.
We've done Thorpe Park at Cleethorpes. Very good holiday, great slides in the pool, but thank god we went off peak. On the Friday a swarm of people descended on the place on weekend breaks. If the whole holiday had been like that last night it would have been grim.
Then we discovered Quay West at cardigan. Can't recommend it enough - PERFECT!
next week we are trying hafan y Mor, it's had really positive reviews and looks like a great base for visiting the beautiful north Wales coast

We had a Bank Holiday weekend at Presthaven Sands in North Wales a few years ago and I wasn't overly impressed. The indoor pool was quite nice but:

  • caravan was basic and site looked a bit tired and shabby
  • bit pissed off that the children's evening entertainment didn't actually start until nearly 9pm. Our DD was only 4 then and this was well past her bed time. The club opened at about 6pm so we naively thought that we could go in the early evening for a couple of hours and then put her to bed. But there was really very little going on for kids at that time.
  • the nearest beaches were a bit grim.
  • the so-called Bank Holiday entertainment turned out to be a very poorly supervised and over crowded bouncy castle that we took one look at and wouldn't let DD anywhere near.

Hey can I just say that I am Ruth Lloyd's Granddaughter and it is so lovely to read messages how some of you remember her and have such fond things to say about her! I would really appreciate any stories, memories or ideally pictures if you have any just to help me find out about the family business and I know my Dad would LOVE it! Thanks x

Went to Perran Sands in Perranporth several years ago and it was grim! Pool was dirty and freezing cold, crazy golf was dreadful.......I could go on, and it may well be better than it was, but once bitten and all that.......

Devon Cliffs. Been going there for years!

It's their flagship park and the best by far.Ha it's own beach, there are playgrounds, lovely pools, all sorts of activities and shows. It is fab.

Right next to the entrance to the Haven park is World of Country Life- a farm park and museum.Lots of fun there, especially if you decide to walk a baby goat Grin

Crealy Adventure Park isn't far away either,if you're driving or using a taxi. Huge wordplay, animals, outdoor splash area and lots of rides.

We have been to Hafyn-y-Mor once and it was fine although we didn't sample any of the entertainments. We've been to Greenacres twice now and it is absolutely fantastic, the beach is amazing, there is plenty to do nearby and the terrace with splashpark and playpark is great when the weather is good - and both times we've been the sun has been cracking the flags all week.

we are booked into Quay West in Tenby this year but next year we are going to go back to Greenacres

We spent one weekend at Cala Gran in Fleetwood and OMG you could not pay me enough to return - it was like Shameless by the Sea, rough would be a generous description, it was vile!

Blue Dolphin isn't very nice but Reighton Sands is nice. It has a lovely new outdoor rapid River thing, which is nice and warm.

My SIL went to Devon Cliffs last summer and said it was fine.

I have to say have done Haven Devon Cliffs and although the site was clean and tidy the steep walk down to the beech was of putting.

I also don't the quality of caravan, pools or evening entertainment justify the price difference between them and either Parkdean or Park Resorts.

There is a huge difference in the quality and amount of entertainment at Haven and Park Resorts etc along with size of pools, activities available etc. There is just so much more there and so much more on.

Caravan wise it depends what grade of caravan you stay in I guess.
