Any suggestions for a break in the UK?

DH and I are looking to go away for a few days in September.
I'll be around 31 weeks pregnant so not a hike up a mountain Grin

We thought about doing a travelodge trip and picking a few random destinations with cheap hotels and traveling about, Another thought was visiting friends in London as we wouldn't have the hotel costs. I'd quite like to go to Wales or Scotland or somewhere pretty but not sure on distance.

We live in Yorkshire not far from the M1 and M62 so within 3-4 hours car travel would be good, I don't know if my SPD would be able to cope with longer.

Any suggestions??

Oooh we had thought about Northumberland. A relative has a caravan near Hexham. And we'd like to visit Alnwick Castle. Where else is nice to visit in Northumberland?

I live in Hexham !! Loads to see & do. National Trust: Cragside & Wallington, Vindolanda & Roman Army Museum, not far to Alnwick Gardens & glorious Northumberland Coast (Bamburgh & Lindisfarne), plus Newcastle nearby too! Of retail therapy required.
I've probably missed loads off this list Grin
