places like Tenby but not Tenby

Hi hoping to get some advice. trying to sort out a family getaway in mid-to-late august with family (i know i've left it a bit late!). last year we went to Tenby and loved it and want to go somewhere similar again. we definately want nice beeches, to be able to stay in a hotel (can't be doing with self-catering), nice views, plenty to do so we don't have to take the car everywhere, a nice atmosphere, good ice-cream! any advice? (travelling with 2dds-under 1 years and 3 years) thank you in advance

Lovely here , not such a nice beach , but Newquay , which is nearby has a lovely beach .

north norfolk coast - relaxed, fab beaches and great for young DCs

I too love Tenby. Also love sidmouth, Lyme Regis, beer, salcombe, st Ives, broadstairs. Also hear that southwold is lovely :)

We love Tenby so much we just keep going back there!

I guess there are places in devon/Cornwall that are similar but will cost £££ more and be more crowded IME. Not sure where exactly.

Otherwise, how about Swanage (beach not as good and busy but lots to do in area); Whitby (tho not so much to do there unless you love walking!); North Norfolk coast like Wells or Hunstanton; or how about somewhere else in Wales - Barmouth or similar? Lyme Regis is lovely too tho the beach is pebbles. Good fossil hunting tho!

thanks for the advice so far. been looking at torquay, any opinions on this? will have a look at norfolk coast. i've been to lyme regis before and would like to take DDs when a bit older but whilst they're little i would prefer a sandy beech rather than pebbly beech. had a look at sidmouth but think that's a bit too quiet for us

Swanage was lovely when we had littlies.
Also Weymouth (bigger, but still sandy) and Boscombe / Bournmouth.

Everyone likes different things, but I think Torquay is a little bit run down and nowhere near as nice as tenby. If you are looking that way, how about salcombe??

@ franticallyjugglinglife +1 for Eastbourne.
We live in Eastbourne and have friends in other seaside towns, Torquay being one of them (possibly worth a punt). Eastbourne is a more "polished" holiday town and whilst there are plenty of gift shops, Eastbourne lacks the hundreds of sellers, selling blow-up boats along the seafront, a good thing I think. Torquay is just a tad tacky, whereas Eastbourne is a more grown up seaside town with a larger number of nice restaurants (good as you cant be arsed with self catering) and there are plenty of stunning views, shed loads of hotels and bed and breakfast guest house venues, a pier, beachy head, and things to do for kids.

Eastbourne was also voted the number one best holiday destination in England (ok, by students admitedly) but it bears no resemblance to London (like Brighton does) and is cleaner, tidier, and more crime free than Hastings. Eastbourne also has records for being the sunniest town in the UK and super clean award winning beaches, if you dont mind parking your bums on stoney beaches (no sand here sadly).

Ive been here 15 years but we're always finding new things to do in Eastbourne which we didnt know about or hadnt done before.

We love Tenby but love St Ives even more. Its my favouite seaside place in the UK. Fab beaches, loads to do including boat trips and it has quant winding streets. Think Tenby but on a slightly larger scale.
