After getting stuck at Bristol last year for over 2 hours crawling along in the August traffic have decided to leave mega early.

What's he best time to get to Bristol (This seems to be the problem area) to beat all the traffic.

We are travelling from East Midlands, and usually takes us 2 hours to get to M5

We travel from central Scotland and have left at 4am. This gets us into St Ives around 4pm allowing for two 45 min stops.

Are you travelling on a Saturday? My advice (if at all possible) would be to travel on Friday - the traffic into Cornwall is very different then. Getting to Cornwall on a Saturday is a nightmare, which is why many owners & agencies are letting properties from Friday to Friday. And it honestly makes life so much eaier! Starting a well earned holiday all stressed out because of traffic, and plenty of 'are we there yet's is no fun.

However, if you have to go on a Saturday I would aim to get to Bristol by 6 or 7am at the very latest - earlier if you can. If it was me, I would be aiming to be at Bristol between 5 and 6am - it makes a massive difference! Have breakfast on the beach and enjoy a full first day of your holiday. Get to Bristol about 9am and you'll be lucky to be in Cornwall for your tea!!

Avoid the A30 at all costs the A38 is a much better and quieter road even on a Saturday. it meets up with the A30 at Bodmin but cuts out a lot of the traffic. we book properties friday to friday like loulou4 says and we also say in SE Cornwall at the end of the A38 not on the North coast or down the bottom. if you do have to do a saturday then there is a travel inn at Liskeard on the A38 that is good and usually a bit cheaper than others so either stop off there Friday night or aim to be out of Bristol by 8am or 9am at the latest. have you got a place to stay then?
