Yorkshire countryside weekend - no car

Please help! Smile

DH and I are planning our first weekend away without children for 4 years. It is a much-needed break!

We will be dropping the kids off in York and then want to travel on to somewhere rural/ villagey. We want a sense of 'getting away from it all' but won't have a car, so it needs to be within a taxi ride of a train station. Looking for nice walks, nice pubs etc. within walking distance of the accommodation.

Any ideas please?

Thank you! PP

Hi
You can get a train from York to either Harrogate or Knaresborough. Knaresborough is a small rural town with a river going through. Just out of Knaresborough is a hotel called Nidd Hall which has spa facilities etc. I've not been but one of my colleagues at work has been a couple of times and enjoyed it.
If money isn't too much of an object, just outside Harrogate is Rudding Park Hotel. Its set in gorgeous grounds and has quite a few facilities. Again I've not stayed there, but I went to a wedding reception there - very nice!

hope thats of use to you

Thank you Amylou. Actually I've stayed at Rudding Park before - it was lovely and I wasn't paying! Very good recommendation. DH is from Harrogate originally, so probably a bit close to home. I'll have a look at Knaresborough though, thanks.

You could get a train to Hebden Bridge and then easily get a bus to various hilltop villages. Loads of lovely walks too.

Get the train from York to Malton (25 minutes) and then you could stay here which is in Malton

Or here - which is a 10 minute drive from the train station and in a lovely spot

Hmm, Malton hotels too pricey for me. What's Malton like? Is it worth looking for a B&B? Oh and does anyone know Thirsk? (would be handy as it's on the mainline)

Pickering is lovely. The crab manor in thirsk is also excellent for a getting away from it all feel xx
