North Cornwall - Watergate Bay Hotel or Sands?

Looking for feedback and recommendations please.
We are two families with 4 kids between us of 3,7, 10 and 11.

Anyone have any experience of these two places?
We need some proper adult time too as well as a place the kids are going to have a whole world of fun!

Ta very much!

When are you going? Drove past Watergate bay last week - it looks like a building site - v. offputting. No idea what the hotel is like - just v glad I wasn't staying there.

OH! Thanks, maybe I will ask when its being finished. It might have to be the Sands then.

I am going in August so if they are re-furbing maybe it will be done for the summer hols.

Sands is awful. We went with a baby and toddler and was worst supposedly family friendly place we have ever stayed. The creche was particularly awful; the kids were just dumped in frnt of the TV. The rooms were noce but the rest , particularly the kids' restaurant was grim

We stay nearby at bedruthan steps each year. This might be worth looking at too.

Caters well for the children, the beach is great, our kids always ask to go to the kids club & always find groups to hang out with. Spa is nice & the wine list is interesting.

Thanks for the feedback.

I think Watergate Bay Hotel is the answer by the sounds of it and thanks to Jo from there for the extra information.

Cheers
Jo

Damnit, we've booked for watergate bay in June to get away from building works at home... Will you be finished by then? (and I spent a good while on the website and don't recall seeing anything about this....)

Have you thought about the Headland Hotel in Newquay? It's where they filmed The Witches. Beautiful hotel, right beside the sea and very child friendly. We stayed there a couple of years ago and loved it.

Just bumping this up as I am going demented trying to figure out what the hell we are doing for our holidays this year!

I have a grumpy 14 year old, a lovely 7 year old and a discerning 46 year old to try and please.

I was planning a week self catering in St Ives followed by 2/3 days at a hotel in the Newquay area as we have never been there before.

Looking at Sands, Bedruthen and Watergate. Off to check out Headlands.

jeaux90 · 11/05/2012 15:40

I looked into the Bedruthan Hotel too, that looks great and has good reviews on trip advisor.

We had several very good holidays at Bedruthan Steps. I'd definitely recommmend it.

QuickLookBusy · 11/05/2012 16:39

And if the Dc are in the kids club, pop next door to The Scarlet Hotel for a few hours. It is the sister hotel of the Bedruthan Hotel.

Dh and I go twice a year. It is amazing and child free Smile

Watergate bay is great, especially for older ones as the surfing is so good. Only small criticism is that the hotel restaurant had a lot of screaming kids running around, I know it's a kid friendly hotel but even my DCs couldn't believe how chaotic it was. Food and service was great though.

mollymole · 11/05/2012 16:54

I have been to Watergate and it is really very nice, been to Sands too, although a long time ago (Sands was not nearly as nice). IMO Newquay is an absolute Shit hole and to be avoided. the beach at Watergate is fantastic and the whole place is very child friendly.

PeelingmyselfofftheCeiling · 14/05/2012 11:12

Rebumping to see if anyone knows how the building work us going at Watergate?

Also, in light of another thread, has anyone used baby listening and/or babysitting services there??

JarethTheGoblinKing · 14/05/2012 11:14

Bedruthan or Watergate.

Incidentally, the building work at Watergate is coming to an end. They've just completed the indoor swimming pool (which look amazing). It's a lovely beach, and the hotel is fantastic.

(I don't work there or anything - just add them on FB and you'll see pics of the current work going on so you'll know what to expect)

PeelingmyselfofftheCeiling · 14/05/2012 11:28

Oh thanks Jareth, that's what I wanted to hear! Good idea about fb too.

Anyone got any experiences of taking young babies there and eating in hotel using thier baby services?

JarethTheGoblinKing · 18/05/2012 19:19

Here's some pics of the work - looks really nice !!

Sorry - don't know anything about their baby services. there were loads of families there last time, and the staff seemed excellent, so looks v promising!
