Decent restaurants in Henley and Oxford

Going away for a couple of childfree nights at Easter staying in Henley but going to Oxford for the day as well. We used to live in Oxford (about 10 years ago) but can remember not really finding anywhere special to eat (it will be DH's birthday while we're away). Any recommendations for things to do while we're there would also be appreciated.

Hi, I'm in Oxford.

If you want a proper restaurant, you could try Gees, very romantic and nice for a special occassion. There's also the Old Parsonage which is lovely although the clientele tend to be a bit more mature.

Quod in the Old Bank Hotel always has a good vibe and there is the Chang Mai kitchen (Thai), down a wonky alleyway but very authentic. (Both on the old high street). If you like "gourmet" pubs, I would def recommend The Red Lion which has recently been refurbished-very cool. There is also Jamie's Italian, the service is great but I wouldn't say it's "special" like Gees or The Old Parsonage. (Red Lion and Jamie's are both on George Street where there are a lot of pubs and places to eat so a good vibe).

5 min walk from the centre of town, there is Malmaison Hotel, which has a very nice restaurant, set in the old jail, so a bit different and next door is the Living Room (but haven't been there myself).

Have a great time!

HTH.

Slightly out
