Nice hotel in York city centre?

Me, dp and 2 kids want to go to York by car in April for a friend's party. We'll need a hotel room in the city centre (or reasonably close). We want it to be nice. And, obviously, not too expensive.

Any recommendations?

not sure if its your thing, but on moneysaving expert i was reading a thread on great travel lodges, and the travel lodge in york city centre was rated very highly by those who had used it

Im pretty sure there was a comment saying it is REALLY close to weatherspoons for bargain dinner / breakfast too

Novotel is a good family option and located in the centre.
