40th Birthday Easter break with DH and 4 year old DS

Hi all,

So fed up of trawling the net trying to find something that meets all the criteria.... Can you help?

Later in April, I have a long weekend in the sun planned with my girlfriends, so would like to do a UK break with DH and DS over Easter. I am not planning a party as will be starting a major house renovation soon, so this will be a major part of my 40th celebrations..

I saw Crieff Hydro come up a lot on the threads and after researching it, thought it met most of my criteria. But when I went to book, they only have availability in a much higher priced room and, given that we also have the cost of the flights on top (we are based in Herts) wanted to make sure no better options were around.

I would like:

  • good value 4/5* luxury hotel, or self-catering with good dining/restaurant options (don't want to spend whole break cooking!)
  • great kids facilities/kids club
  • spa/adult-friendly things to do
  • not so bad journey from Herts (i.e. nice train journey, reasonable car drive, short flight)

Normally, I would insist on sun, but since I have my weekend with the girls to look forward to, as long as the three of us have fun, we can put up with a bit of dodgy weather.

Desperate for your help!

TIA

Thanks give me a clue. Just stunning - but between £400 and £500 a night???!!

I've come across Watergate Bay now, and that is the favourite. Haven't told DH he will be driving there :)

Ugh! They want £200+ a night for b&b, which is fine, but the spa and indoor pool are closed! Back to the drawing board...

A bit of a trek from Herts (but not as far as Watergate Bay)

Soar Mill Cove
