What is there to do with kids in Cambridge?

My DH and I are randomly selecting cities to visit for 2 nights in April (we will be travelling home from a wedding and want to break the journey). We both fancy Cambridge but will the DC (8 and 5) be bored?

I'd say there isnt a huge amount for children in Cambridge itself to be honest, but the things there are are very good. The Scott Polar Research Institute is small but fascinating. There's also the University Zoology Museum which has some dinosaur exhibits I think (havent been for years!). Sedgewick Museum has lots for children too: here

Wimpole Hall and Home Farm are good for younger ones, and if they like planes/tanks/history then Duxford is great. There's a wildlife park at Shepreth which is good fun too. There's an outdoor centre at Mepal (near Ely). Oh and the Orchard Tea Rooms in Grantchester where they can run around in the gardens and then you can play in the meadows and take a walk down to the river.

It's a nice shopping town to walk around. You can also go punting. The river is lovely to walk along.

Come to Norwich instead;-)

Audley end in Saffron Walden or the duxford air and war museum

Agree that Duxford is worth a visit. There is the Fitzwilliam museum which mine enjoyed at a similar age ( and it's free!), there's also the folk museum which DS1 went to with school and enjoyed.

Thanks for all these suggestions. We have completely changed our plans and are going to go to Blackpool via Birmingham instead!!
Will definitely bear Cambridge in mind for the future
