Am looking at booking a holiday in North Wales. We went last year and stayed in the Rhyl area and did not enjoy it! But we loved the area further west around llandudno, anglesy & caernarvon (apologise for my spelling!) Looking for somewhere to spend a week with a 2yr old girl and boys aged 6 & 12. Any recommendations gratefully received :)

Does the Lleyn Peninsula appeal at all? We have travelled with Nefyn Holidays a few times they have lots of well priced self catering places. Much nicer than Rhyl IMHO, you are near Pwellheli and lots of beaches.

I can recommend the Lleyn Peninsula area and there's a lovely little beach in Cricieth if you want the seaside.

Also there are lots of nice cottage lets near Snowdon for more active walking or mountain biking holidays.

Not massively helpful... I'll ask my DH when he gets home (he's from N Wales).

How odd... Cross posts!

Abersoch on the Lleyn peninsular is brilliant for a family holiday.

We all like it there! Around Morfa Nefyn is walking distance for Ty Coch which is a pub on the beach with lovely views, webcam on the website. Aberdaron quite nice too.

And a day out at Greenwood Forest Park a must with children that age, it is fab.

Sounds like the place to be! going the week the schools break up here in scotland so hope to get a deal b4 the real high summer prices kick in. Is the Lleyn Peninsula the area past Anglesey on the coast, we didn't go further than Anglesey last year as we had to go back to blooming Rhyl! but we went inland to Snowdonia. Anyway will get googling tonight...thanks guys!

Lleyn penisular is the sticky out arm past the top left of Wales. You'll love it there! Grin

If you want to give your 6 and 12 year olds a treat while you play on the beach with the little one book them for a sailing lesson at Abersoch here.

And don't forget a visit to Portmeirion!

Ooh, want to go to Wales now! Grin

We are going in the summer again . We used to go abroad but the children love it, the dog/s can come too, it's cheaper, and you don't need to be herded like cattle through an airport, I am converted.

finsophmum · 11/02/2012 20:04

I know I work for NTS and there are a load of lovely National Trust properties around that area, so free day outs for us too!!!Selks that sounds great the sailing, think the 12 yr old would really enjoy that and Portmeirion was on the list. I really don't know why people go abroad our country is great. :)

We stayed at a Haven Park in Porthmadog last year. It was fantastic and it wasn't to far away from Snowdon, Portmeirion, Caernarfon etc.

I think it was called Greenacres.

There is a great caravan park in Llanrug called Brynteg. Llanrug is smack in the middle between Caernarfon & Llanberis. Down the road in Cwm Y Glo there is Piggery Pottery where the kids can paint pots. Llanberis is lovely & you have the train my the lake & the Snowdon one. Caernarfon ...erm...well is pretty shite TBH. Castle & that's about it. Oh they have a fun centre called Yr Hwylfan - great for the kids. That's it about Caernarfon.

Lovely beach called Dinas Dinlle (my local beach). Great for the kids with bikes/scooters. You have a selection of caravan parks in Dinas Dinlle too

This one is very popular too just outside Caernarfon
