Planning a trip to Giant's Causeway in May

My DH and I are going to have our first nights away from the kiddliwinks since they were born (DD will be 4 in March!).
We have both always wanted to see the Giant's Causeway and are planning on a 2 night break (driving up from Dublin).

Just wondered what recommendations people have.
I have seen a lovely guesthouse that is right beside the sea but wonder if we might be better to stay in Belfast and take a day trip to the Giant's Causeway?

Have been looking out for Groupon deals and things (it would be May, most likely 16th and 17th of May but some flexibility).

I was thinking a nice hotel in Belfast with late checkout on our second day would mean we can make the most of our lie-ins!

Any thoughts?!

I was proposed to at the Giant's Causeway so have v fond memories of our visit. GrinIt is such a beautiful spot and you'll have an amazing trip.
We stayed at the Malmaison in Belfast. Low-lit and atmospheric the hotel is full of character and is full of character.

I would stay somewhere actually on the Antrim coast as it is so beautiful, plenty of places to explore up the Glens, Carrick a Rede, Glenarm, Cushenden, Ballintoy. We stayed in a guest house overlooking the harbour at Ballycastle - can't remember the name of it but it was where Marconi carried out his telegraph experiments. It wasn't very posh if you're looking for a good hotel etc., but was clean and comfortable and the breakfast was good - the view from the garden was tremendous.
