Things to do in North Wales?

Hi - now that Christmas is over and I'm due back at work soon I need something to look forward to so am looking to book our summer holiday. I've been looking at North Wales - Llandudno/Colwyn Bay area but DH is worried there won't be enough to do?

We have 3 boys who will be 4, 7 and 9 who like to be kept busy! They love cycling, the beach, theme parks and swimming (ideally there'd be a pool with some slides/rapid rivers).

Can anyone help let me know what there is to do so I can convince DH? TIA

Colwyn bay, the great orme, llandudno castle, Ffestiniog railway, plenty of NT gardens and coastal walks, Greenwood Forest park is great for the kids to run about and climb stuff.
Snowdon mountain railway, plenty of slate and coal mining historical sites.
We've been to north Wales a few times, there's plenty to do there.

You could visit port merion? It's a strange place but interesting to look round.

I think as long as you being clothes for all weathers then you can go on some fantastic walks in north Wales.

We stay just outside porthmadog at borth y gest. you can walk to black rock sands and there is a lovely harbour here. we go to electric mountain, portmeirion, walk along the old railway line at bedgelert, go to the castles, shell island, centre for alternative technology, greenwood theme park is great fun ( a whole day out) and lots of mines and things to explore.

the Sun Centre in Rhyl is good for slides and waves DD9 loves it there, some good beaches and lovely walks and a cycle path that runs across most of the coast.

I'm in Snowdonia & there is plenty to do here. Visit Glynllifon Estate as there are lovely walks in there. We often visit on Sundays & don't pay & use the college car park. Shame you can't go into the house though. Near by beach is great too (Dinas Dinlle) lovely walk along the promenage, great for bikes & scooters.

Caernarfon is pretty shite TBH. Castle is great & that's about it really. llanberis is worth a visit (free entrance to the Dolbadarn Castle & great views from the top) & Betws Y coed is also nice.

Llandudno is a lovley day out. We often visit int he summer & spend the morning on the pier & then walk round the shops & along the prom. There;s a blowing alley in Llandudno & a Cineworld in Llandudno Junction along with Pizza hut/McD, KFC.

You could pop to Beddgelert. Google it as there's an interesting story to the name of the place........sad story cos I still cry at it & I'm 28!

Gypsy Wood is lovely, you used to be able to use your tesco days out vouchers to get in. There is LOADS to do in North Wales

tram up the great Orme, Rhos On Sea has a lovely park with a kids paddling pool and places for ice cream :)

Colwyn Bay mountain Zoo

swimming pool,

Could visit Anglesey a few times......gorgeous beaches, a lovely farm park called Foel Farm

We like Llanberis, can hire a paddle boat, nice park, indoor soft play area

I love Bedgellert, can walk to the dogs grave lol veiws are stunning

Dinas Dinlle beach is lovely , cafe, a park, lovely walk

If you fancied a full day out defo go to the rabbit farm further down towards criccieth, best place ever. Puppies to cuddle!!!!! My DD never wants to leave , she was nearly 10 when we last went! baby goats walking round, the animals are the friendliest we have ever seen and you can feed them all

anniebear · 10/01/2012 09:38

Oh yes Betws Y coed, lovely little place, especially if your kids like trains! can go on a mini train, then there is a shop and models (and lovely ice cream!!)

Yankeecandlequeen · 12/01/2012 10:32

Oh Yes the rabbit farm! Been there & the kids love it. Nice ice cream shop in Criccieth too! Could always pop to Haven for the day in Pwllheli!

Gypsy wood has expanded. Went there with the playgroup last summer & I had been a few yrs before & though it was pretty boring but now they have an extra play area & much more space for the kids. Barbie dolls in the woods makes the place creepy mind........!

We went to a lovely caravan park called Brynteg-booked with Hoseasons. It is situated near Caernarfon. We found loads to do-Portmeirion, Caernarfon and Greenacres park. Would also love to visit Anglesey.

CharlotteBronteSaurus · 12/01/2012 10:36

trip over to Anglesea is nice
Beaumaris is quite chi-chi with a few nice places to eat, and the castle and gaol are good fun

yy to Cadwaladers ice cream parlour in Criccieth. yum.

ebbandflow · 12/01/2012 10:39

Sorry not Greenacres park it was Greenwood Forest park we went to.

Bunbaker · 14/01/2012 17:22

The zoo in Colwyn Bay was an unexpected gem. I don't recommend Colwyn Bay as a holiday destination though. It is a bit run down and doesn't have many decent places to eat in. I much preferred Llandudno.

Conwy is awesome and apart from the lovely town itself, old town walls has a castle and a nice little tropical butterfly house that is worth visiting. The gardens at Bodnant are lovely and the Ffestiniog Railway has lovely views - don't do it on a rainy day.

VivaLeBeaver · 14/01/2012 17:32

Go to Llanberis - Pete's Eats is the best cafe in the world. Electric mountain is there and you can pay to go on an underground tour of the power station under the mountain. It was fab, even DD loved it. Also there is the free slate museum there.

Cycling in the forest near Bedgellert is good, good icecream in Bedgelert, nice riverside walk and also a copper mine just outside you can go round.

Doyouthinktheysaurus · 14/01/2012 17:40
