Things to do near Edinburgh Waverly Station from 7-11pm(ish) Friday night

It's my two sons - 13 and 10 - and me. We'll be waiting for the overnight train which leaves at an ungodly late hour (for me, I'd be happy to be in bed now) so have some time to kill.

Does anyone have any suggestions or should we just wander around until it gets a bit late and then hole up in a cafe until the train leaves? I'm planning on leaving our luggage in the left luggage place at the station, so we don't have to worry about that.

If you have no bags, there is a cinema about 10/15 mins walk from Waverley at the Omni Centre - bound to be something pg on there. Below it, there are some bar/restaurants eg Frankie and Benny's but they might be rowdier than you want on a Friday night.

I was just posting to say a film and a meal at the Omni centre too. I wouldn't say Frankie & Benny's and the other eating places in there are rowdy at all.

That's perfect, thank you both! I think we're going to see Tintin and then have a bite to eat. Smile

Thanks again - this really saved us. The drive took longer than I thought - we got to the train station too late to catch the movie but were all tired and hungry (especially after frozen pizzas and candy bars self catering for a week) and headed over to Frankie and Benny's for some much needed hot food. I never would have guessed that was there, so thanks for the Omni Centre and restaurant recommendations.

Haven't been to Edinburgh before - it's gorgeous!
