need to get to Raynes Park but coming in at Kings Cross, can you comfortable tube it? Would it be far in a taxi?

Hmmm. Raynes Park is on the district line isnt it? Look at TFL journey planner. You can get the Vic line from Kings X to Vauxhall and then get a train from Vauxhall to raynes Park train station if that helps. prob quicker.

V expensive taxi. Raynes park is south London and on overland, not tube.

You can take the tube to vauxhall then overland to Raynes park (via Wimbledon). By tube and train will take about 45 mins. A cab will take at least as long and will cost a fortune.

BlingLoving · 26/10/2011 08:54

Unless you have lots of luggage, the journey will be easy.

Lilymaid · 26/10/2011 12:36

Alternative is a Northern Line tube to Morden and then a taxi from there - much cheaper than a taxi all the way.
If you change from tube to train at Vauxhall there's one escalator up from the tube to tube ticket hall level, then steps up to the ground level, then in the railway station, there are steps (fairly steep) up to the platform, so not great if you have a lot of luggage.

NoWayNoHow · 26/10/2011 13:06

Raynes Park isn't on the underground line at all. But other posters' suggestions of Victoria line to Vauxhall then the overground train are spot on.

clottedcream · 31/10/2011 10:56

..I have no luggage, so to re-cap I need to:

From Kings Cross tube it to Vauxhall
From Vauxhall go to the train station and book a ticket to get to Raynes Park

Does the Vauxhall to Raynes Park go direct - you dont have to change at wimbledon do you?

OP posts:

It does go direct trains are from platform 8 of mainline station every 15 mins

clottedcream · 31/10/2011 13:16

how far is mainline station from Vauxhall tube - walkable?

I don't wish to be rude Clotted but Transport for London has an excellent web site with journey planners and everything

here it is I'm sure that will be easier!

clottedcream · 31/10/2011 14:03

curry - actually Ive checked this and the journey planner takes you to Kings Cross to Brixham then it mentions Vauxhall - it got me confused so I posted here.

I dont drive, I dont go on big journies, I havent been to London for 15 years....this is a huge thing for me and I panic about time, traffic etc.. I know lots of M'nettters are London based and just wanted to get an idea of what is the best way/route etc...

Ok, my dear, don't panic

You need an Oyster card, preloaded with about a fiver cash. You can buy this at King's Cross. That will cover your entire journey. Swipe it on the yellow oyster "reader" to go through the gates at King's Cross and then to leave at Vauxhall, then again at Vauxhall station (no gate here, I think, but there will be a big yellow oyster post to swipe it against) and again when you come out at Rayne's Park. With that no need to buy separate tickets etc. Keep your Oyster Card and reload it whenever you come to London. You may be able to buy advance online. If you are worried about swiping card how/where ask the staff, they will help you.

Then Victoria Line to Vauxhall. It is a very short walk from underground to overground. overground to Raynes Park

A cab would cost a fortune and take forever.

Good luck

Fair enough (my mom is the same so I totally get what you mean) but really, I think that's far less confusing than asking here.
