North or East Devon in October?

I'm trying to book something for October half term. The Dss are 6 and 2. Haven't been to North Devon before and I'm wondering if it would be a disaster if the weather's crap? Would we be better off near Honiton/Lyme Regis/Exeter

It's never a disaster in Devon! But look at South Hams/ South Devon.

Thanks! We've visited South Devon quite recently so wouldn't mind discovering a different bit. Have found fab cottages on farms near Combe Martin and one near Honiton that's twice the price. Just worried there won't be so much to do in North Devon.
