we took ds's down to London for the first time last year - they were 8 and 6 and both absolutely loved it.

We did the London Eye on the first day - probably their favourite thing. Then Boat trip up and down the Thames.

Second day we went to Hamleys which they loved as well and then went to the Rainforest Cafe for a rip off lunch which was also popular. Walked down to covent garden and that was enough for one day.

Then 3rd day went to the Tower of London - brilliant.

They're both asking when they can go back - I think next time we'd do an open topped bus tour but we didn't have time last year.

Natural History museum always a hit; easy enough on the tube. My DS (5) loved HMS Belfast (by tower bridge). Also a ride on the river bus to Greenwich for the maritime museum (the kids interactive zone, where they get to do a ship simulator and lots of other fun stuff is great, and free)
Transport museum is in Covent Garden; pricey, but adored by both my DC (5 and 2)
