Week in July - where can we go Mon - Fri...cheap and cheerful but plenty to do

tha's it really have DS age 6 want to go somewhere to fill the week but must been fairly cheap but plenty to do for kids/families - not Devon or Cornwall as going there end of Aug

Chester?
Hartlepool/Darlington?
Newcastle?
NE coast eg Cullercoats?
Butlins?

check out the lastminute-cottages.co.uk site the cottages have the dates that they are free next to them so you can pick one to suit. if going in school hols in July though they will probably charge you for a week. also lots of caravan places offering big discounts if you arent too fussy!
