Southwold - please can someone recommend a nice hotel?

I'm having a short weekend away with my dear friend and we'd like somewhere a bit special.

Can anyone recommend somewhere please?

You don't have many choices. The two main hotels are both owned by Adnams Brewery. The Crown is more modern and more casual. The Swan is more old world and formal, but has lovely garden rooms.

I've had a quote from the Swan and they also have availability - someone on Trip Advisor suggested requesting a room in the main hotel rather than the garden annex but you would disagree huh? As it's for the end of june when the weather will hopefully be nice, the garden annex sounds more tempting.

Do you have to be in actual Southwold? What about Aldeburgh?

My friend really wanted to go there MitchiestInge. I've booked the Swan now - I was too impatient to wait for Lizcat's reply .

If you know the area though, I'd love some tips on things to do. We only have two days and want to be fairly lazy!
