Thinking about renting a seaside cottage here in the Summer holidays. Does anyone have any knowledge of the area and if so what are the best areas to stay please? So far have looked at Alnwick, Alnmouth, Seahouses and Bamburgh. Thanks in advance. (And if anyone knows of a seafront cottage with 3 bedrooms and a garden .... Grin).

Hiya, am from the North East (Tyne and Wear). All the places you mentioned are lovely (although I am biased!). Alnwick has a big castle and gardens with a fab park for the kids and a lovely bookshop. Definitely worth a day trip! Seahouses has lovely fish and chips. Bamburgh also has a castle. Never been to Alnmouth I dont think but all of these places have beautiful beaches, really beautiful. Stay in any of those places, if you are taking a car and you can visit all the others easily! Have a look at the ukcampsite as it has some good information about things you can do. Also visit www.visitnorthumberland.com/ which should have a lot of information. Also Newcastle, The Metro Centre and the coast of Tynemouth are not too long a drive as well. Can't promise you fab weather but I reckon you will enjoy a stay here.

Hope that helps a bit!

Hi, have you looked at the Coastal Retreats website ( sorry, not sure how to link). Have booked through them for half term and all their cottages look lovely /well equipped. They cover all the areas you've mentioned. I did find that most places booked out in Jan though but you may be lucky. Will post a review when we get back!
