DCs want to learn to surf. Please point me in the right direction

DCs are very keen to learn to surf (7 and 10). They had a 2 hour private lesson in Croyde last year and fell in love with it.

I really want to take them to Cornwall for May half term. It is probably going to be just the 3 of us (DH has to work, although he may come with us for the 3 day weekend).

Given that I will be by myself with them for much of the week, I would like to be in a town/village location within walking distance of shops and restaurants.

I don't want to be on a holiday park site.

I like narrow streets and nice shops! DCs requirements already set out.

Have been considering Padstow, Polzeath and even as far as St Ives. I am aware that there are a whole heap of places inbetween so am open to any alternatives as long as they meet the above criteria.

Budget is up to £700 for the week.

watergate bay
try this
tbh, there's not much within walking distance, but there's a surf school, a couple of cafes, restaurants, shop.
I loved it just for a couple of days.
couple of miles out of Newquay

Thanks exhausted.

Have finally settled on St Ives with a cottage right on the beach in the town. Took hours of searching but got there in the end :)

Sounds fantastic, I'm very jealous!
