Birmingham, Leicester, Coventry area - what should we do?

Dh and I are escaping for a lovely 2 night break in this area without the dd's next week :) . I really want to do a good bit of shopping. Is Leicester, Birmingham or somewhere else best for this?

We are seeing the Dancing On Ice Tour on one of the evenings in Birmingham and also have a spa day booked for the last day

What else should we do? Have a full evening and most of a day to fill/relax!

TIA

Birmingham has all the shops, such as bullring and mailbox (designer stuff).

Coventry....not so much.

Thanks, so Birmingham is the place to shop.

Can you recommend a nice place to visit for a few hours on our 1st day, maybe a bit more peaceful and picturesque than a shopping centre! We are actually staying in hinckley

Thank you lovely midlanders! :)

Depends what you're into. You could do Warwick (we're big fans) and Stratford quite easily if you're into history. There's some nice places to walk if you're a walker.

Definitely Brum for shopping. There's always Warwick Castle if you are into castles? There is a great tapas bar close by called Cafe Catalan which I highly recommend.

You could go to Bosworth if you are into history?

missnevermind · 16/04/2011 08:56

The Nature Centre on the pershore road, you wouldnt belive you were in the middle of a big city. 2nd Bosworth as well, I think the Conkers play area is that way as well and also the Bird Sanctuary.

Ooo thank you for all the suggestions. I will have a look at them all. excited now :)

The Nature Centre is lovely but probably not v exciting without children.

The Brindley Place and Mailbox areas are nice for a long lunch or some drinks. Cielo is a v good Italian or Thai Edge do a very good lunch deal.

Straftford nice for a couple of hours.

Selfridges for shopping.

The Ikon Gallery for half an hour of culture plus good pots of tea and biscuits - or tapas. Birmingham Museum and Art gallery for ace Pre-Raphaelites.

llynnnn · 16/04/2011 21:22

Wow thank you so much for all the recommendations, especially cat, thank you.

I know this is pretty specific but are there any nice places sort of between coalville and hinckley area?

Will definitely check out the Birmingham places too, planning a full day and evening there.

Thank you lovely ladies :)
