We are off up to Sunny Scotland next week to visit MIL grave in east Kilbride as a year to her death, and have booked a cottage in Moffat as nothing closer to East Kilbride.

Have 3 dc DS age 7, DDs aged 10 and 6. We are outdoors people and like plemty of open space.

Have been to New Lanark conservation place and also Tinto Hill before so would like some new places and also ideas for places to eat.

Many thanks

Coco bean company near Kirkcudbright good for kids about £10 each though there is also a motor racing museum as David Coulthard comes from nearby village.Kirkcudbright worth a stroll

Seaside if weather good Kippford or Rockcliffe

Castle Douglas is pretty food town

Mabie Forrest outside Dumfries for walks and views

Shambellie House and museum of costume at New Abbey great tea rooms in New Abbey too also Sweetheart Abbey

Caerlaverock castle

Drive to the Grey mares tail

Walk in the Ae Forrest -take picnic

Avoid Dumfries really it's grim

Trip to Peebles nice craft shops and eateries

Devils Porridge exhibition at Eastriggs think it's free and more interesting than you expect

Dalton Pottery off the beaten track but kids can paint and produce

(Friends moved to Dumfriesshire so know area well)
