Hiring a motorhome

We're thinking of doing this for a week in August to see parts of Scotland I've always wanted to.

Has anyone done this before?

Do I need to prebook camp sites?

Anything I need to be aware of or think about?

P.S. Probably going to hire bikes for the week too as obviously won't have a car. Can a 3 year old go on one of those attachment seats on a bike?
