Hotel for weekend without kids

Can anyone recommend a good hotel for two nights in June - DH and I are going away for our 40th birthdays, first time without kids in 4 years! Would prefer not too far from Essex (Suffolk, Kent, Sussex, Oxfordshire). I've been looking at Southwold and Whitstable but all hotels are either really expensive (£200/night) or have terrible reviews. Any ideas greatly appreciated.

The Griffin Inn, Fletching East Sussex
The Tower House B&B Tenterden, Kent

Neither are hotels but both are in lovely surroundings, with food on the premises or nearby, and not too expensive.

Might be too far but The Scarlet on the north coast of Cornwall is amazing - and adult only so great for time away from the kiddies x
