Self-Catering Holiday in Ireland

Hi we (DH, DS-8, DD-5 and I)are thinking of going to Ireland for our summer holiday - a week towards the end of August.

We are looking at getting the Ferry from Liverpool to Dublin (which seems quite expensive!) then travelling from there.

We have been told that Galway is lovely but would look other suggestions.

We would consider taking our caravan but the Ferry prices almost double.

Can anyone suggest any self-catering accommodation?

Thanks

Thanks Maryz for your reply. The tips about distance are really helpful as we hadn't a clue!

We are looking at cottages in Galway, although Waterford/Wexford also look nice. On the website we have found the price for the last week in August seems to drop quite a bit. I'm wondering whether the children in Ireland go back to school then.

We are looking for somewhere with pubs, restaurants, cafes etc with the beach nearby. I will have a read through the thread. Thanks again

Hi there

my dh and 2 dc go on holiday to Galway every year . We have the advantage of living in the North of Ireland though , so avoid expensive ferry costs .
We stay in a remote village in Connemara . The beaches are beautiful , and if the sun shines you couldnt ask for a better place .
We use a website called Connemara Coastal Cottages .
Hope this helps .

Thanks again Maryz. I read that thread - such lovely memories.

Thanks also topsy.

Think we are definitely going to go to Galway. My DD's teacher also recommended it. We have been looking on Shamrock Cottages who can also organise ferry travel. Will have a look on connemara website aswell.

Thanks again, I'm excited!
