Trip advisor has my head spinning! Looking for a toddler friendly hotel in York that would also be nice break for us. Somewhere we can put we can put DS safely to sleep in room & have monitor/listening service so we can have dinner in hotel.

me too

McDreamy · 03/03/2011 21:49

Does it need to be in York city or would you mind somewhere just outside?

dontdillydally · 03/03/2011 22:36

city for me

queenbadger · 04/03/2011 14:40

Just outside or city would work for us!

this is lovely but it's in a village just outside York.

Gottakeepchanging · 04/03/2011 21:16

Which ones are you considering?

York is a bit weak on tne hotel front.

Gottakeepchanging · 04/03/2011 21:19

Aldwark manor not really York. Used to be a nice hotel - gone downhill since q hotels bought it. I last stayed 18 months ago and it was so dire not been back. Nice swimming pool. Disorganized really. I have spent hundreds of days there over the past 10 years.

Does trip adviser suggest it's ok?

queenbadger · 04/03/2011 21:39

Trip Advisor bit mixed really...95 excellent/very good vs 64 average/poor/terrible. Sounds like you've put alot of time in up there - where would you go back to?

Fair enough, we haven't been there for quite a while (about 6 years). It was nice then. Don't know anywhere else I'm afraid.

Gottakeepchanging · 04/03/2011 21:51

Don't stay at royal York-the station one- I actually walked out it was so awful.

Gottakeepchanging · 04/03/2011 21:52

Mcdreamy- you are right it was nice a few years ago. It has real potential but it's just disorganized- they ran out of wine -ran out- last time we were there.

Gottakeepchanging · 04/03/2011 21:55

I have heard good things about cedar court but not stayed. Been in 3 others- they don't set the world on fire but are ok.

The grange is quaint and the food is good

Gottakeepchanging · 04/03/2011 21:58

I would avoid monk bar- not the cleanest. Rooms are a bit odd- bathroom up spiral staircase and like a metal box. I'm size 10 and the stairs were tight.

The Churchill on Bootham is lovely

dontdillydally · 06/03/2011 17:29

Just booked the Premier Inn...has some of the best reviews for a reasonable "no more than 2 night stay"!!!

queenbadger · 07/03/2011 19:19

cedar court looks lush...bit rich for us though...will have a look at grange and the churchill...thanks for the tips!
premier inn sounds ok - good move! what will you do for dinner? Our DS is only 2 so in bed by 7...

We stayed at the Hilton York, very central, if you stayed in one of the suites you would have plenty of room for children, no listening service, there are very few hotels offering this service these days.

dontdillydally · 07/03/2011 22:34

Hilton is full.

QueenBadger - our ds also is an early sleeper so tend to go out for the day and have tea/dinner overlooking river at Slug and Lettuce or Pitcher and piano around 4.30/5pm (allow kids in till 7pm) head back get him a sleep for 7.30pm, and sit and drink wine with dim light or in the dark!!!

Hotel du Vin is really nice, although I'm not sure about child-friendliness...

smellyfeet · 27/03/2011 22:37

We stayed at HdV in York last weekend with DD who is 3.

No listening service, but the bistro is really good as you can get decent adult meals+wine and they also do childrens meals (pasta and some other things). The breakfast is good, they made DD some bacon and didnt charge for it :)

The rooms are OK sized, she slept in the bed with us.
