I am going to meet a friend in London for lunch next week but as I am off work that day I could go up earlier and do something myself for 2-3 hours. Am meeting her in Covent Garden but am happy to stray away from that area as long as I stay fairly central. Any suggestions?

Go to the Egyptian exhibition on the book of the dead at the british library, if it's still on and you can get tickets. Tis fab.

I would go to the National Portrait Gallery. The early 20th century room is my favourite Smile

Bridget Riley exhibition at the National Gallery.
Have a look all round Covent Garden, up Neal St, Monmouth St etc.
Go on London Eye, then walk over the bridge and up through covent gaden.
Walk through St James' park
Go to the V&A
Go to Liberty or Selfridges or Harvey Nicks
Get the boat between Tate Britain and tate Modern, or one of the other Thames boats.

Tube to Oxford Circus - Liberty - Selfridges - Wallace Collection and have a coffee there too, after taking in a bit of culture!
