Best route from Folkestone to West London on a Saturday lunchtime?

The AA route planner says go the long way round ie M20, M25, M4, A4. 168km, 2h

Mappy says go through London, Lewisham, Camberwell, Knightsbridge, Hammersmith, Hounslow, Ealing. 129km, 2h

I suspect that going through (fairly) central London on a Saturday lunchtime may be total madness.

But will the M25 be a nightmare too?

Eurotunnel gets in at about 11-11.30 in Folkestone on Saturday.

Can anyone suggest a good route?

I would suggest taking the route you mention. The first bit of the M20 is lovely and quiet, you will only mix with built up traffic past Maidstone and it will get busy when you reach the M35. We too travelled from Folkestone to the M4 junction off the M25 a couple of weeks ago on the weekend and the traffic was fine.

The M25 is always going to be busy. This will be your quickest route, it is three lanes the majority of the way, where as the M2 is mainly two lanes.

Thank you very much Thecherries, that's reassuring. Smile
