looking for a property to rent for week or long weekend. would love to be right on the beach or v. close to the beach.
have never visited this area with kids - can anyone recommend a good place to stay or best town....
as well as being on or v. near beach, would prefer to be walking distance to shops/cafes etc.... (not asking for much am I?? ;-)

any recommendations gratefully received.

We stayed at The Bay Hotel in Lyme Regis last August. It is right on the beach and the rooms are more like self catering apartments with lounge/diner, small kitchen, 2 bedrooms and bathroom. Perfect location - walking distance to high street and the room we stayed in overlooked the sea.

We booked a very reasonable apartment through LymeBayHolidays - was walking distance from the beach, as lots of their properties are - have a look LymeBayHolidays

Lots of places ar right on the seafront in Lyme regis - Lyme Regis is a great centre to be in, it is a charming little town, with excellent cafes, pubs and restaurants, you can walk along the Cobb, walk in the Undercliff, turn R along the beach to see the fabulous 'ammonite pavement', or turn L for the fossil walks that yield icthyosaur vertebrae, belemnites, ammonites, etc. It is also well located in the centre of the region for heading W to lovely places like Beer, or E to Burton Bradstock, Bridport, or Weymouth.

We really enjoyed a week in Lyme Regis in April one year.

But get a place with a parking space - parking would be a nightmare, otherwise.
