Hello! Planning a short break to the UK in March with hubby and my two 4 year old boys. Plan is to fly into Birmingham, hire a car and ideally base oursleves in North Oxfordshire. We are looking for a self catering cottage either in a village or maybe on a farm. Any suggestions? Would love somewhere with a midsomermurders - esque feel to it!! I think whats hindering my search at the minute is my lack of knowledge of the counties/shires - not sure where I should be looking. (im in ireland)The only definite activity we've planned is a daytrip to Thomasland. Any tips or advice please. Maybe I'm looking in completely the wrong area!!!Thanks

I'd probably not come down as far as north oxon, theres plenty of pretty villages etc around warwick or stratford upon avon. both still on the m40/m42 corridor to get back to thomasland.

a bit further I'd head for the cotswold villages bordering north oxon -- chipping norton, stow on the wold, broadway, evesham. Further still is Bourton on the water, tho all these you can get back to m5 easily enough and up to thomasland.

I can recommend kingfisher barns but its south oxfordshire and probably better placed if you were hading to legoland, windsor, chessington and also wanted to be in Oxford city.

if you end up warwick way then your sons would probably like a visit to hatton country world

Midsomermurders is S Oxfordshire, but the Moreton in Marsh area is lovely, and an easy drive from Birmingham, and into Oxford. Bourton is a bit over touristy for me, but nice for a visit to see the penguins Grin
