Places to visit in Scotland

I'm thinking of planning a break to Scotland in April with my DH, just the 2 of us.

We really want to visit somewhere that is not a tourist magnet (like an unknown gem) and is a bit of the beaten track - though not completely isolated. Ideally somewhere thats within an hour so drive of some attractions/places of interest. Could consider somewhere in the highlands but not too far north or difficult to get to - we're coming from the North West.

Any recommendations would be really appreciated?? Smile

Oban is beautiful! Little harbour town on the west coast. There is a distillery and a sea-zoo.
You can also get a ferry to Mull which is just across the harbour and is where they filmed Balamory! There are another couple of islands too. Staffa, which is made of volcanic columns similar to the giants causeway and Iona, which has an abbey.

I wouldn't stay in Oban though. Go on the ferry and stay on Mull itself; wonderful, wonderful island and doesn't really get busy.

Sealife Surveys do the most amazing wildlife and whale-watching trips: sheer bliss!

Thanks for your suggestions we had been looking at Mull but haven't been able to find a cottage avaiable that we like - after something small and cosy but not dated.

Been looking at Lch Long around Helensburg, any views on there??
