Hi....dh just had lung surg for advanced bowel cancer, we are in need of a break at half term. Max £500 a week, love rivers, woodland, wildlife, sauna or hot tub, not too remote, can anyone help? Must sleep 5, pref 3 beds min! Thank you.

Not being English i do not know when your holidays are so can not tell you the price but we have been to the Hilton Craigendarroch self catering lodges for a number of years and find that they are very, clean, comfortable and well equipped and just a short walk from the hotel with all the facilities that you requested. We consider it very good value for money. It is in Royal Deeside and so has the countryside as requested. Dunblane Hydro has also got self catering accommodation in the grounds of the hotel. We have also enjoyed the facilities, accommodation and countryside but find that it is far more expensive in the times we have wanted to go. Hope this is of some use. Best wishes.

Wow, sounds like a really horrible time for you and I am not surprised you need a break. I am not sure what part of the UK you are looking for, but you could try Suffolk - I have been there on holiday and the wildlife there is renowned. this place might just fit the bill - it is right on a lake so there are lots of lovely walks even if you aren't into fishing - the bonus is that it has a private hot tub and Suffolk isn't too remote. I hope this helps you and I wish you and your husband all the best.

Thank you both, yes its been a nightmare for the last three years, well the last 16 years since our son died..........
Anyway thank you both, Scotland is too far as we live in Kent nr Dover, the lodges would have been good but they haven`t got a 3 bed one free at that time. Something like that would be good as I love watching wild life.

We have stayed at these in the Keldy Forest - very nice but not sure if any of their other sites are near you

triplets · 27/01/2011 00:15

yes agree they are super, we stayed last year in a golden oak cabin at Keldy it was fab, sadly all sites booked for half-term. Phoned Hoseasons today and nothing apart from Cornwall or Scotland!!

Aw thats a shame! We are staying here at half term - not exactly forest but on the edge of the Dales and walking distance to Richmond (Yorkshire). Probably a bit far for you though?

HolidayMummy · 27/01/2011 12:28

Hi there, how about Devon, is that too far? If you like holiday lodges these ones are award winning eco lodges with 21 acres managed exclusively for wildlife. Here is the link if that helps. Or if that's too far, then I know of an option in Herefordshire, one near Bath or in Somerset if that is any help - I so want you to go and enjoy a holiday, you sound like you really need it. xx

BlingLoving · 27/01/2011 12:29

What about a centreparc?

triplets · 27/01/2011 23:32

Would love to go to CP but its outrageously expensive during half -term. Been looking and looking, would so love the sauna or hot tub as its such a treat for my husband. He had 6 months trial chemo last year, lost 4 stone and has felt the cold ever since. I looked at Flowery Dell, they have acc but only to sleep 4. Have put in a request with your recommendation Holidaymummy, thank you, might get something.

DH and I stayed at the Arghyll Forest Holidays site. Really nice, we stayed in a Silver Birch cabin which had a hot tub. Really nice, beautiful lochside location and plenty of walks.

TheHouseofMirth · 28/01/2011 21:26

Is this too far? Or North Devon?

triplets · 28/01/2011 22:59

Thank you, the house in Wales would be lovely but with the extra charges it works out over £700 which we can`t afford. Looking as though we will be staying here!

Triplets the insurance won't be compulsory but yes, it's still £670. Might be worth contacting them a bit nearer the time - if it's still available they might do a deal?

nymphadora · 29/01/2011 08:04

York? Holiday lodge thing just outside can't remember the name at the moment but it was v nice with a hot tub on the veranda & loads of wildlife.

triplets · 29/01/2011 16:12

Nothing about except horrendously expensive center parcs..........hmm......still searching.......DH now going off the idea, I need a break, he has been in hospital last week for lung surgery, my trio were 13 last Thurs, just finished off their b/day treat with a trip to Canterbury with their friends!

Has anyone suggested Kielder Water and Forest Park triplets? Its probably going to be too far but there is a choice of accommodation - including the youth hostel (which is a four star one). They have sauna, pool etc on the site - it looks very nice:

www.visitkielder.com/site/accommodation

have you seen this site?

www.lodgeswithhottubs.org.uk/help/special-offers/february-half-term-offers.html

or there is here in Lake District:

www.golakes.co.uk/camping-and-touring/lake-district-caravan-parks.aspx

or this 4 star independent hostel has sauna

www.grasmerehostel.co.uk/

and this one in Wales has a sauna:

This is a good displacement activity. Should get back to writing my report due next week..... Wink

nymphadora · 29/01/2011 17:57

York ones

V nice!

Mytholmroyd · 29/01/2011 18:01

or here?

triplets · 29/01/2011 22:16

Griffon Forest would be the perfect choice, unfortuneatly they are fully booked. DH would not stay in a YH, too old! Ribby Hall I have emailed, thank you all so much for looking for me.

The lodgeswithhottubs takes you to Hoseseasons, I phoned them days ago they had nothing apart from Cornwall which is a horrible drive for us.

Mytholmroyd · 29/01/2011 22:51

You could always try ringing them nearer the time and see if they get a cancellation triplets - I know Forest Holidays sometimes have last minute availability on their web pages.

Really hope you get something
