Weekend away in North Norfolk in Feb - any ideas?

I won a family ticket to Pensthorpe park in a MN competition (:)) and we thought we'd try to get in a weekend away to Norfolk before DC3 arrives in April, ideally in mid-Feb (not half-term though).

We could stay at Center Parcs in Elveden (been there before) but it looks like a long drive to Fakenham from there.

Requirements for the ideal weekend cottage:

  • 2 bedrooms (one twin, other double, ideally a bigger than double bed as we're used to a big bed at home!)
  • fire/woodburner as it may still be freezing in Feb
  • walking distance to family-friendly eating places/pub
  • safe for kids to wander about inside (some i've looked at have very steep stairs, DC are 4 & 2 & I'm pg).
  • character/period building

Any ideas?

Hi,

We stayed here a couple of years ago and had a fantastic time. It's very close to Fakenham.

Not sure if it answers all your requirements but it was very child friendly, all equipment we needed, all on one level and had a fantastic indoor heated pool & a games room which was great when the weather was iffy.

Don't remember any pubs within walking distance, but plenty within 10-15 min drive.

It looks like it's been done up and redeveloped a bit since we went, so not sure what the prices are like now but might be worth a look.

Thanks Cake - looks good but DH quibbled the price, esp as I'd found a rental cottage for £150 (their best price was £550ish), though admittedly not with the pool - i was v tempted!

Am hoping to book here though sadly the pub, right next door, is not family-friendly but we'll drive around a bit and see what else is up there for future visits.

That's a lot of money for out of season. I think their prices might have gone up since we went - it looks as though they have refurbished a lot.

Have a good time - it's a lovely area.
