We are about to have our first night away without the children and as it's been so long since we had such a luxury we have no idea where to go.
We are in the north west so looking for somewhere not too far away - Cheshire, Lancashire.

Somewhere traditional, quiet, romantic, roaring fires, good food etc.
Any ideas gratefully received.

the inn at Whitewell near Clitheroe is lovely

Thank you both. I had tried to get in a the Inn at Whitewell before I started this thread but they were booked up till October. Good sign that it's lovely but no help for my February mini break!

Does anyone have any other ideas please?

DH and I had our first child-free night away at Northcote.

Would highly recommend it.

Or the Lakeside at Newby Bridge is lovely but I don't know whether you can just have one night (well you probably can, but the better dinner & room rates tend to be for 2 or 3 nights)

Would you consider straying across the Pennines towards Harrogate? If so, then it might be worth looking at the Hob Green or the Boar's Head at Ripley.

How about Rookery Hall, Crewe Hall or something in Chester?
