Need to book a hotel quite closeby with free/cheap parking.

Am hoping to be pregnant by then and dont want to be too far away from venue. Dont mind a small walk but not too far.

If we get the train into Temple meads is it far from venue?

I don't know where Ashton Gate is, but we have stayed here and here

CaveMum · 13/12/2010 07:05

My parents live a 5 min walk from Ashton Gate.

I'm afraid to say I'm not aware of any hotels nearby as it is a very residential area. There may be a few B&Bs around though.

Temple Meads is about a 10-15min drive from Ashton Gate, not really doable on foot.

Your best bet is probably to stay in a City Centre hotel and get a taxi to Ashton Gate (about 20min drive)

Hope that helps!

Me again! A quick google has revealed this website.
It specialises in finding hotels near football grounds (Ashton Gate is where Bristol City play).
The distances given are "as the crow flies", and knowing what Bristol traffic is like I'd take their journey times with a pinch of salt!

Happy searching!

I don't know of any hotels at all in Ashton Gate, it's aresidential/business park sort of area. The closest you'll find is probably the Mercure Bristol on Redcliffe Way, but it's still a taxi ride I think ( Although you do see people walking to the football from the centre it's quite a hike). It's quite nice, gets good tripadvisor reviews, we've stayed here once and it was fine.

Thanks guys.

Sounds like City Centre is the way forward then. We have provisionally booked Future Inn at Calbot as it has free parking.

Do you think there will be plenty of buses/taxis outside stadium?

Coronation road has plenty of B&Bs and is close to Ashton Gate and in the direction of Temple Meads. I would say the walk from Temple meads to Ashton Gate is 30-40 minutes.

Or you can look at staying in a nice hotel in Clifton and getting a taxi to Ashton Gate.

Buses 24/25 go from Ashton Gate to the centre and are the same as all Bristol buses: crowded and not that reliable.

belgo · 13/12/2010 11:29

buses

near ashton gate there are no hotels but there are some b&bs

try this (about a 10-15 minute walk away from ashton gate)

www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g186220-d1085173-Reviews-Hotel24seven_Bristol-Bristol_England.html

there are buses into town but they are not that frequent from ashton gate. future inn is not that fab to be honest (its on the main road opposite the shopping centre) so I would say you would do just as well to stay in a nice b&b and walk to ashton gate (very easy)

Thanks guys. Bumping for anymore ideas

I'm a bit confused about what you are trying to do. You are looking for a hotel with parking but planning on walking from Temple Meads?

If you will have a car you would be better off looking for a hotel away from the City Centre, more on the Clifton side of Bristol, and driving to the venue. Am I missing something?

Have a look on google maps and put in Ashton Gate. That will show you where things are in relation to everything else. Bear in mind that all roads are always blocked, and as Cavemum says travel always takes much much longer than you'd expect.

Hi . Think the confusion has arisen from the fact we haven't decided whether to take car.

If we drive to Bristol we need a hotel with free parking which the future inn has. However a previous poster has said it's not that good. Would spend the day shopping though so seems like a ideal location for that.
If we don't drive and get train would need one within easy distance of station. Don't want to spend a lot of money on taxis while we are there.

Then am considering how to get to venue. Been stuck outside many arena before waiting for buses or taxis. It isn't much fun!
Hopefully friend can drive there- just not sure what parking is like/how much etc. Again done the waiting 3 hrs in queue to get out of car park- not the best time time I've ever spent!
