Covent Garden - where can we eat?

am looking for a lovely restuarant to eat on oen of our ngihts we are staying in London. Indian sorted for the Fri night now need somewhere lovely and great food for the Sat any ideas?

There is a place called The Forge that is really lovely, go on TopTable, put in the search there and book a special deal, often something like £29 for three courses from a set menu plus a kir royale. I've never had a bad meal there, and the set menu has lots of choice. Although the side dishes and wine can make it add up a little.

What sort of food were you thinking of?

we used to go to Le Palais du Jardin but its gone now hasnt it. I love French

Obviously really depends on what you like but there's loads of choice. If you like meat, Sophie's Steakhouse, round the back of the opera house, is great. We had an excellent meal there a few months ago. Or there's always J Sheekey, posh fish restaurant, a few minutes walk from Covent Garden. V good food.

Fire and Stone, Dominion street - italian restaurant, went last saturday - very nice. Lastminute.com are selling reservations for £8 pp which gets you a pizza and a glass of prosecco - great value.

Loads of choice in Covent garden. YY to Forge

If you are loaded, expensing treating yourself you could go to Asia De Cuba in St. Martin's Hotel for cocktails and pan asian food.

Mon Plaisir in Monmouth street if you are a Francophile.

If you want chintz then Joe Allan's - US broadway style restaurant.

Wahaca is a really cool Mexican place - highly recommend.

There is also an Australian run restaurant in St. Giles whose name escapes me but is supposed to be v. good. And a really great Italian that's in a little secret corner off St. Martin's Lane whose name also escapes me but hopefully other posters will be able to help

Mexican or the French looks cool....lovvvvvvvvvvvvvve the St Martin's restuarant but way too expensive looked at the taster menu and its very poor not much tasting for £120!

Definitely Joe Allens or Orso for atmosphere and star-spotting.

If you like veggie/alternative stuff then head to Neal's Yard for the World Cafe type cusine. Not fine dining, but very yummy. The whole yard smells delicious when the kitchens are running.

Cafe des Amis in Hanover Place - food is good french bistro style food and a vvvv good wine list. I always seem to end up there when I'm up in London. Sheeky's is good, but expensive and Joe Allen's is great, but best for brunch IMHO - mind you, they do serve a mean margherita!!!!. Chez Gerard is my DH's favourite place for steak & chips but I've not been to the one in Covent Garden so couldn't give an opinion.
