I'm having a girly weekend in Liverpool and looking for somewhere good to stay and pref. near the main shops.

Is the Marriott in Queens Square near the train station and shops and restaurants?

yes about 5 mins from the train station and 3 mins from the shops, its right bang in the middle of everything, come out the door and you can see the railway station, and to the left loads of nice eating places and wine bars, and over the road the main whole shopping area, liverpool one etc..

I would say the marroitt is spot on,enjoy your weekend.

yes v. near the train station - in fact I saw your other thread and was going to suggest marriot but then my computer crashed! there's a la tasca literally round the back of the Marriot, lots of chains near the bus station - ask/nandos etc, then lots of posher and one off restaurants in the business district - victoria st/castle st within 10-15 minutes walk. the main shopping drag in Liverpool is the other side of the bus station (Lord St), and then Liverpool One (spanking new shopping development with loads more bars/restaurants/shops) starts off just off Lord St.

In terms of restaurants - the very best restaurants IMO are about 20 minutes walk from the Marriott, near the Philharmonic and university end of town - 60 Hope St, London Carriage Works (on Hope St) and Pushka on Rodney St.

ooh thanks girls - am soooo looking forward to this trip now. And it's in Dec - so can get all Xmassy too.
Though thinking on it - better book for dinner if the Xmas nights out are starting.

L'pool has a pretty small town centre so nothing is very far away. I was at Uni there in the 90's and when I went back last year I was really impressed with all the work they had done there. The docks are still shite though apart from the Tate which is brilliant. My fave place to eat is the Everyman, next to the Everyman theatre. Great for lunch especially. Big portions and LOVELY puds...

Everyman Bistro is great for lunch. Its a bit far away from bars for dinner IMO. If you want to go posh (WAG central) then look at San Carlos. Its mucho £££ but is very nice especially if you like fish.

Liverpool One is the place for shopping.

We went on the Duck Bus at the Albert Dock yesterday, now it may have been because we had children with us but our sides were aching with laughter when we got off - so much fun!!
